Here are my requirements and expectations when it comes to using any technology.
Full Control
Technology is a servant and I am its master. It is integrated more into our lives each and every day. It is an extension of ourselves. It needs to be kept in check.
I should be able to know as much as I wanted about the technology I'm using. No mechanism or inner working should be hidden.
I should be able to change as much as I wanted about the technology I'm using. Nothing should stop me from using it the way I want for the purpose I see fit.
Privacy, Security
My data belongs to me and it should stay that way If I choose so. Only I should have the keys. To keep the locks functioning, the technology needs to be up-to-date. It should be maintained, cared for and kept alive.
Ease of use, Convenience, Aesthetics
Bonus points: apart from being useful, it should be a pleasure to use.
Sharing
I shouldn't be the only one enjoying the above benefits. Others should get access to this as well if they are interested.
